Q&A with Jason Crabb, N-Hance Wood Refinishing Multi-Unit Franchisee

Q&A with Jason Crabb, N-Hance Wood Refinishing Multi-Unit Franchisee

Name:Jason Crabb

Title:Owner-operator

Brands:N-Hance Wood Refinishing

Territories: 3

Years in franchising:Less than 1

Jason Crabb is new to franchising, but not to entrepreneurship. He bought his first N-Hance Wood Refinishing franchise in October 2021 and kicked off his business just a few months later in January. In March, he jumped at a great opportunity from his franchisor and opened two more locations. His 3 locations are in the Kentucky/Missouri area. Here he tells about his first franchising experience, why he chose a service brand, why this brand, and how it’s going so far.

Why did you choose to franchise with a service brand?

I have owned my own company before and absolutely appreciate the advantages of franchising over starting from scratch. All the legwork is already done. It’s a well-developed model, and partnering with N-Hance has provided me with a great customer base right out of the gate because of their brand recognition and impeccable reputation.

How did you choose the sector and brand you did?

I chose N-Hance because I have worked with cabinet manufacturing and refinishing before. This was not a new concept for me, and I felt confident about this work. What sold me on N-Hance was the leadership team and the support they provide franchisees like myself. They are dedicated to my success. Plus, sometimes it’s just a gut feeling. I knew with my background and the strength of this brand it was a perfect fit for me and my family.

What different skill sets are required for service brand franchising?

First impressions are everything. I have worked in service industries before and among the top skills to have are being personable and being able to build a rapport with my customers. I truly want to help homeowners improve the look of their kitchens, and I think my customers can sense how genuine and sincere I am about that. I enjoy working with people. I’m right where I belong.

What are the advantages of choosing a service brand?

Service brands are never going out of style. Plus they’re not dependent on a booming economy. We are doing well during a downturn, for example, because folks want some changes or improvements done in their homes without breaking the bank. Our refinishing services are affordable and a great way to get an inexpensive yet beautiful kitchen makeover.

Why did you add two more territories so soon after opening your first franchise?

I am a multi-unit franchisee with N-Hance. After my first location was up and running and doing well, I saw the demand and knew that expansion was a good business strategy. When my franchisor offered a special two-for-one deal, I bought two new territories and am confident that the expansion will be lucrative.

What would you recommend to anyone considering a service brand?

I would recommend doing it. Find a brand that aligns with your passion and skill sets. Before you jump in, ask the hard questions. Plus use the support aspect of the franchise. Don’t assume you can figure everything out – that’s what the leadership team is for, that’s what the training is for. I have also experienced firsthand how effective networking with fellow franchisees can be. That is a great resource – use it!
