Snap-on Tools Dig Deep to Support the Charity Hull Freedom Trail

September 10, 2007 // Franchising.com // - Snap-on Tools, have dug deep and supported The Hull Freedom Trail with over £18,000 of tools which will be donated to aid agencies in Sierra Leone when the project delivers their vehicles in October this year.

The project aims to deliver 5 fully equipped 4x4 vehicles to aid agencies in Sierra Leone who work with children who are victims of modern day slavery. They will be driven there from Victoria Square on Freetown Day (October 25th) to Freetown, Sierra Leone.

"Snap-on's support is an incredible help towards providing vehicles to these aid agencies that will be maintained properly and extend their life as much as possible. We're thrilled with this level of support and it is a real confidence booster to the team." says Jonathan Richards, the project co-ordinator.

"Preparations are increasing apace with the deadline of our departure, October 25th, looming large on the horizon. We have purchased 4 out of the 5 vehicles we require and this has been financed largely by local businesses and Rotary. We're calling on other members of Hull's business community also to dig deep and pledge to us the finance we need to complete the project. We need another £30,000 to reach our target of £150,000".

The Hull Freedom Trail is being filmed for a documentary by Claudio von Planta who has recently returned from 3 months filming in Africa as the cameraman for Ewan McGregor's and Charley Boorman's new BBC epic - Long Way Down. The project is taking over 20 Hull people including 5 young people from the Longhill, Bransholme and Orchard Park Estates. The young people will play a lead role in the documentary which aims to raise the profile of the plight of young people caught up in acts of modern day slavery such as those found in Sierra Leone.

Mr Richards continues, "Snap-on make some of the best tools in the world and, early on, we realised that we can't just deliver the vehicles on their own, we need to leave with each aid agency some support to maintain each vehicle properly. Sierra Leone's road are some of the most punishing in the world and the aid agencies need reliable transport to continue and extend their valuable work to re-unite children with their families after the civil war. Snap-on have provided us with the tools to give this support".

After the presentation of the tools to Hull Freedom Trail, Snap-on Tools' Managing Director Terry Barcham said, "we are delighted to be associated with such a worthwhile endeavour. When we consider that there is even more incidence of slavery in the world today than in Wilberforce's time – there should be massive and universal wake-up call. The Hull Freedom Trail will help in this cause."
