Premier Inn Secures Four of a Kind in Scotland

UK’s largest hotel chain adds 388 bedrooms with new locations in Glasgow, Perth, St Andrews and Stirling

March 25, 2013 // Franchising.com // Premier Inn, the UK’s leading hotel chain, has signalled a strong start to 2013 in Scotland by securing four new hotel sites – adding almost 400 bedrooms to its expanding estate in the country.

The four new sites at Glasgow Pacific Quay, Perth, St Andrews and Stirling have been acquired as part of Premier Inn’s ongoing expansion across the UK to reach its target of 65,000 bedrooms by 2016 – up from 52,000 today. The new hotels will create over 150 new jobs when they are open.

The four sites are:

Glasgow, Pacific Quay: a six-storey 180-bedroom Premier Inn hotel and restaurant on the banks of the River Clyde, opposite the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre and new Hydro arena. Construction work is due to commence shortly, with the hotel opening in time for the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow in 2014.

Perth: an 83-bedroom Premier Inn hotel and restaurant converted from the old Pullar’s Building on Mill Street.

St Andrews: a 65-bedroom Premier Inn hotel and restaurant on Largo Road.

Stirling: a 60-bedroom Premier Inn hotel and Beefeater Grill restaurant at Forthside.

John Bates, Head of Acquisitions UK and Ireland for Whitbread Hotels and Restaurants, said:

“Premier Inn is one of the UK’s leading brands and we are expanding rapidly as we respond to strong demand from our customers for more Premier Inn bedrooms in great locations. We have more than 52,000 Premier Inn bedrooms across the country and we are continuing our record rate of expansion to achieve our goal of 65,000 bedrooms by 2016.

“We’re investing in projects right across Scotland and these latest deals add to the hotels we have recently opened in Glasgow and Ayr. The proposed hotels at Perth, St Andrews, Stirling and Glasgow Pacific Quay highlight the flexibility and security we bring to projects, giving residents and local authorities the confidence they need that we are the right partner for them.”

Premier Inn has 250 target locations for new hotels across the country and its latest requirements are available at: http://www.whitbread.co.uk/whitbread/property/premierinn/targettowns.html.

Since March 2012, Whitbread has created more than 3,000 new jobs across the country and plans to create 10,000 new jobs over the next three years as it expands its Premier Inn and Costa brands.
