BrightStar Care Announces Plans to Expand in Multiple Countries with Master Franchisees & Area Developers

Global Aging Trends Fuel International Demand for Quality In-Home Care

CHICAGO - August 26, 2014 - (BUSINESS WIRE) - As the number of people 65 years of age and older worldwide will double by 2050, along with an increased desire among seniors to stay in the comfort of their own homes as they age, BrightStar Care, a private duty home care and medical staffing franchise with more than 260 locations in the United States, is primed to fill the demand. The home care franchise has announced plans to expand in Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, Mexico, China, Japan, New Zealand and other areas of Europe.

"Seniors around the world are seeking to stay in their homes as they age, and their families are looking for a home care provider they can trust," said Shelly Sun, CEO and co-founder of BrightStar Care. "The BrightStar Care brand is committed to being A Higher Standard of Home Care for families all over the globe, and we have the proven model with a solid infrastructure to help our international franchisees deliver high-quality care in their communities."

BrightStar Care is unique among private duty home care providers in its commitment and ability to deliver the highest quality of care. Each franchise location employs a Registered Nurse Director of Nursing who creates unique, personalized plans of care for each client and oversees professional care teams of well-qualified, experienced caregivers who deliver expert, compassionate and personal care. BrightStar Care locations also are able to provide the full continuum of care, including non-medical and medical services, which means BrightStar Care can continue to provide trusted service to their clients as their healthcare needs advance over time. In addition to the active role of the Registered Nurse Director of Nurse, BrightStar Care locations are required to obtain and maintain Joint Commission Accreditation. The Joint Commission is an internationally recognized healthcare-quality-standards organization with rigorous standards.

Recently, The Joint Commission presented BrightStar Care with the prestigious Enterprise Champion for Quality Award for its proven commitment to the highest level of clinical quality and safety - for the second year in a row. BrightStar Care is one of the charter recipients of this award and the largest national home care franchise to achieve this distinction. In addition, Forbes Magazine recently named BrightStar Care as the nation’s No. 1 franchise system in the category of brands with entry costs of up to $150,000.

For its international expansion, BrightStar Care will utilize the Master Franchise or Area Developer model, with a goal of signing two such agreements by year’s end and at least 10 more deals over the next decade in the targeted countries.

Spearheading the growth plan is international franchise development veteran Anthony Padulo, who has successfully expanded brands such as Dunkin’ Brands, BP Oil and Aamco into global markets. As Executive Vice President, International for BrightStar Care, Padulo is focusing efforts on securing deals with Area Developers to own and operate multiple locations at a time, or Master Franchisees, who can sub-franchise after opening two to five of their own locations.

"The ideal candidates to lead development in our target countries would be sophisticated operators who have experience managing their own organizations and who clearly understand the franchisor/franchisee relationship and the training and support process for franchisees," Padulo said.
