Kid to Kid and Uptown Cheapskate Customers Raise Money to Build the First of Three Schools in Africa

Kid to Kid and Uptown Cheapskate raise $51,613 from charity Fill-A-Bag sale to help build one school in Africa with the remaining amount going towards building a second school in the near future.

Salt Lake City, UT (PRWEB) May 08, 2015 - Customers of Kid to Kid and Uptown Cheapskate stores across the country raised $51,613 on April 25 at charity Fill-A-Bag sale events. These funds are more than enough to build one school, and the remaining amount will go towards building a second school in the near future. Kid to Kid and Uptown Cheapskate - Salt Lake City based resale franchises - have partnered with buildOn, a non-profit organization dedicated to breaking the cycle of poverty, illiteracy and low expectations through service and education.

"These schools our customers are helping us build will serve hundreds of children that have never attended a real school before," said Shauna Sloan, President and Founder of Kid to Kid. "We are thrilled we can contribute to such an amazing cause and provide our customers with fashionable clothes at the same time."

Kid to Kid and Uptown Cheapskate plan to raise a total of $100,000 by the end of the year, which is enough to build a total of three schools in Mali, Senegal and Burkina Faso.

At the Fill-A-Bag events, large shopping bags were sold for just a $15 donation to buildOn, and customers stuffed as much donated product into the bags as they could fit. Most of the sale merchandise was donated by customers.

Each school will accommodate up to 150 kids and feature two classrooms, a roof, toilets, and classroom supplies. buildOn partners with the ministry of education in each country and the local villages - which provide the land, local materials, and some construction labor. buildOn contributes the engineering, special materials, skilled labor and project supervision. The village is also required to send girls to school in equal numbers with boys for gender balance and equality.
