Tails Are Wagging for Three Dog Bakery Franchises

Industry Leader Shows Strong Growth with New Locations and Market Expansion

May 20, 2016 // Franchising.com // Kansas City, Mo. – Three Dog Bakery, the original boutique bakery for dogs, began in 1989 with one retail location in Kansas City. The pet industry has grown exponentially since – and the “humanization” of pets has created a strong demand for freshly baked, hand- crafted treats. Three Dog bakeries have been at the forefront of this gourmet industry and continue to thrive in 2016. After reporting double-digit revenue growth in 2015, Three Dog Bakery has already confirmed 10 new locations for 2016 and hopes to sign another 2 before the end of the year. With over 40 boutique bakeries around the country (several franchisees with multiple storefronts), Three Dog Bakery is still looking for a few more cooks in the kitchen.

“We're taking a thoughtful, systematic approach to finding great franchise partners with optimum locations,” says Scott Ragan, President of Three Dog Bakery. “Our current franchisees are seeing such strong demand they’re looking to open additional bakeries in and around their markets.”

Within the past two months, bakeries have opened in Nashville, Detroit and St. Louis. In June, new bakeries will be opened in Toledo, Ohio (with a second bakery scheduled to open in 2017), Zionsville, Indiana (the fourth bakery in that market) and Dallas, Texas (the fifth location in Texas). Between July and November, new bakeries will open steadily in additional markets all across the country.

“Two of the bakeries opened last year were the direct result of interest from developers,” added Ragan. “It’s gratifying to know developers see Three Dog Bakery as an ideal fit for their retail developments.”

Three Dog Bakery currently has around 40 bakeries throughout the U.S. During the next five years the projected goal is to increase the amount of retail locations to between 150 and 200.
