As Students Head Back to School, Mathnasium Learning Centers Opens 700th North American Location

Leading Math-only Education Franchise Poised to Meet Growing Demand for Strong Math and STEM Education

LOS ANGELES - Sept. 14, 2016 // PRNewswire // - Mathnasium Learning Centers today announced the opening of its 700th North American location in Bexley, Ohio.

"Thirteen years ago, there was one Mathnasium center. Today, there are 700 - with one to two centers opening every week inNorth America. Mathnasium has emerged amidst a perfect confluence - one that provides an ideal market condition," said Mathnasium co-founder and CEO Peter Markovitz. "Math not making sense to kids is a global phenomenon. Adding fuel to the crisis is the fact that universities are demanding even higher math scores from applicants to qualify for admission, even to pursue non-STEM degrees."

Indeed, timing is ripe for Mathnasium's expansion, with job growth trends showing a rapidly increasing demand for workers with strong math knowledge. According to a report released by the U.S. Department of Labor's Bureau of Labor Statistics, "Employment in occupations related to STEM - science, technology, engineering, and mathematics - is projected to grow to more than 9 million between 2012 and 2022. That's an increase of about 1 million jobs over 2012 employment levels." Mathnasium's proprietary teaching method was developed by veteran math educator and Mathnasium co-founder/Chief Instructional Officer Larry Martinek to bridge the gap between students' math skills training and the concepts they're expected to master in the future.

"The Mathnasium Method™ helps solidify math foundations by first utilizing sophisticated assessment tools to pinpoint strengths and weaknesses unique to each student," Martinek explained. "From there, we construct a personalized program that will help students master number facts, boost number sense, and gain well-rounded mathematical knowledge."

The human element is equally critical to Mathnasium's formula for success. "We believe that the ultimate technology for teaching a child - and implementing our program - is a human being," Markovitz added. "Children need attention and encouragement. They need someone to celebrate their successes and believe in them; someone who really cares."

To that end, Mathnasium awards franchises only to those who demonstrate solid business acumen along with an equally strong desire to make a difference. "Passion doesn't begin to describe the way that Mathnasium franchisees feel about what they do," said Markovitz. "Speak to them and you'll learn the real reason why they wake up in the morning thrilled by the nature of the work they do. They speak unabashedly about changing the world - one child at a time."

With double-digit percentage growth in 2013, 2014 and 2015, franchise growth has increased stridently every year since Mathnasium's inception. Thus far, 2016 has proven to be a landmark year for the supplementary math education franchise. The 700-center milestone arrives on the heels of Mathnasium's newly-forged alliance with National PTA as a founding partner in PTA's STEM + Families initiative as well as the company's biggest franchise convention to date in Dallas, Texas. With plans for international expansion picking up speed, "The future holds much potential for growth at Mathnasium," Markovitz concluded. Truly, we could not hope for a better market opportunity at a better time."
