Chem-Dry and N-Hance Franchise Brands Find Stride in International Development

Harris Research, Inc. Becoming Major Global Franchise Player

March 16, 2017 // Franchising.com // Nashville, Tenn. – Harris Research, Inc., parent company to home service franchise brands Chem-Dry Carpet & Upholstery Cleaning and N-Hance Wood Refinishing, is rounding out a recent boost in domestic franchise growth with international multi-unit deals in five new countries. Finding success in the growing home service industry abroad, the brands now span 52 countries and are planning continued expansion across the globe.

The international growth has not gone unnoticed; Chem-Dry was recently recognized in Franchise Direct’s Top 100 Global Franchises list at No. 19. With a presence in over 50 countries, Chem-Dry added several new international locations over the past year, including opening in its first Central African nation – Tanzania – as well as Turkey and North Germany. With a strong global network of master franchise operators, Chem-Dry has its sights set on further expanding its footprint and broadening its worldwide presence by adding locations in Latin America and Eastern Europe, among other target regions.

Sister brand N-Hance recently ramped up its international growth by inking its first deal outside of North America, where it has 400 locations and counting. The brand plans to bring 40 locations to Australia and New Zealand within the next 10 years. Building on this momentum, the wood refinishing franchise is planning to expand into prime markets such as the EU.

“Global growth has always been a focal point of our overall strategy. Our international operators are just as ambitious and motivated as their domestic counterparts, and have become an invaluable part of our franchise system and our global brand,” noted Dan Tarantin, president and CEO of Harris Research, Inc. “With both N-Hance and Chem-Dry, we have a scalable business model and strong product offering within the hot home services sector that appeals to a diverse global market. Those dynamics are fueling our expansion and that’s why we foresee continuing to add more countries for both brands looking ahead.”

Both brands are finding success in using the Master Franchise model in which the Master Franchisee owns the rights to the brand within a territory and is responsible for developing the brand by selling the business to sub-franchisees. With this model, both Chem-Dry and N-Hance enjoy the local presence of the Master Franchisee to work directly with the new operators. Looking to further develop their international presence, HRI brands plan to add even more international Master Franchisees in 2017.

“Both brands can credit a large portion of their international popularity and growth to the universal need for services that provide healthier environments in the home and workplaces, as well as durable and more sustainable options to renew hardwood surfaces,” noted Tarantin. “Regardless of the varied cultures our international franchise partners operate in, the messaging, market demand and products are all the same. Our brands provide the same unique solutions and superior quality results for a diverse consumer base, delivered with exceptional customer service by our operators around the world.”

Chem-Dry uses a green-certified solution and proprietary deeper-cleaning Hot Carbonating Extraction (HCE) process to create healthier homes and workplaces. In a study by an independent lab, Chem-Dry’s HCE cleaning method was found to remove 98 percent of common household allergens from carpets and upholstery and 89 percent of airborne bacteria when a sanitizer was added. As part of the brand’s Healthy Home initiative, it now has 42 Green Certified products.

N-Hance uses proprietary solutions and refinishing techniques to restore the natural beauty of hardwood floors, cabinets, doors and trims – at a more affordable cost than traditional remodels such as re-facing or replacing cabinets. N-Hance can also change the color of wood surfaces to provide a whole new look with a factory-quality finish that reduces bacteria growth by 99 percent.
