Retro Fitness Flexes Expansion Muscle in Pennsylvania with Plans for 30 New Gyms

Popular Northeast Fitness Franchise Shares Pennsylvania Expansion and Strategic Growth Efforts that will Increase the Brand’s Presence to More than 30 Gyms in the Next Three Years

COLTS NECK, N.J - March 30, 2017 - (BUSINESS WIRE) - Retro Fitness, a fast-growing, national low-cost, high-value fitness franchise, is targeting the Quaker State for significant expansion. With 17 franchise locations already open and operating throughout the greater Philadelphia market, the company has announced plans to have upwards of 30 additional Pennsylvania locations open or in development within the next three years through strategic franchise partnerships.

Currently, Retro Fitness operates several gyms throughout the Philadelphia area in East Norriton, Bethlehem and Easton to name a few. Plus with brand new facilities in Spring Garden and East Stroudsburg, Retro Fitness is on the fast track to hitting its Pennsylvania expansion goals.

Although Retro Fitness has many operating gyms in Pennsylvania already, there is plenty of room to build its presence in the following Pennsylvania markets:

  • Philadelphia can accommodate another 15 to 20 additional clubs
  • Pittsburgh can accommodate at least 10 to 12 more Retro Fitness locations
  • The Harrisburg/Lancaster/Lebanon/York area can accommodate 7 to 10 additional gyms
  • Wilkes Barre and the surrounding area can accommodate another 2 to 3 gyms in the market

“Being from New Jersey, Philly and all of Pennsylvania have always been near and dear to my heart, so I saw Philadelphia as the perfect place to introduce Pennsylvania to our low-cost, high-value gym when we began franchising the concept,” said Retro Fitness CEO and founder Eric Casaburi. “Although we’ve been consistently opening successful gyms in the areas surrounding Philadelphia, there’s a void in the rest of the state that we’re adamant about filling. We believe Retro Fitness can attain the same market power in Pennsylvania that it has in the New York City Metro area and New Jersey where we have more than 100 gyms. We provide entrepreneurs with an unprecedented proven business model that is built on delivering members an affordable gym experience with the quality and value they deserve.”

In January 2017, the Spring Garden gym opened and will act as a prototype for all new gyms in the state, boasting the newest Retro Fitness design and amenities. The gym is the first in Pennsylvania to offer Retro Results, powered by the New Exercise Order - a multi-level personal training program that provides a solution to members of all fitness levels and desired price points. The program includes Team Conditioning (TEAM), Small Group Strength Training (SGST) and One on One Training (1:1). It also incorporates MYZONE technology, which gamifies the workout experience.

To boost its Pennsylvania expansion, Retro Fitness seeks single and multi-unit franchisees throughout the state. Retro Fitness offers a flexible, manager-run business model with streamlined operations, dedicated support from industry experts in every stage of development, predictable monthly income from membership base, plus multiple revenue centers.

Rob Kurz, former professional basketball player who played for Notre Dame before joining the Golden State Warriors, opened his first Retro Fitness location in Horsham, Pennsylvania in 2014. He also recently opened a second location in nearby Maryland in partnership with other former professional athletes. He said, “My locations have been doing great. Our members are actually spending twice the amount of their membership, paying extra for personal training sessions and taking advantage of other amenities like our Retro Blends Smoothie Bar and Pro Shop. I look forward to meeting with other entrepreneurs who are looking to bring an affordable fitness solution to local communities throughout Pennsylvania.”

Overall, Retro Fitness has more than 150 locations operating in 16 states and is on track to have 250 gyms open in the next two years. The burgeoning franchise signed more than 20 franchise agreements in new and emerging markets in 2016. Driving the investor-friendly franchise’s growth are strong-unit economics, streamlined business operations and a focused, forward-thinking approach that continuously brings more value to franchisees and members.
