Big Blue Swim School Celebrates Opening of North Center Location with Ice Cream Social on March 16th

Families across Chicago are invited to tour facilities, enjoy live music, kids activities, giveaways, and ice cream

March 12, 2019 // Franchising.com // CHICAGO - Big Blue Swim School, a swim school franchise that was founded in Chicago by five-time U.S. National Champion swimmer Chris DeJong, is opening its fifth Chicagoland location on March 18th. Big Blue is celebrating the grand opening of a new facility at 4207 N. Western Ave. in Chicago’s North Center neighborhood on Saturday, March 16th from noon to 4 p.m. Visitors can tour the swimming facility, meet the brand’s executive team and staff of full-time instructors referred to as child engagement specialists, and sign their kids up for swimming lessons.

Ice cream and other frozen treats will be provided by Logan Square’s Pretty Cool Ice Cream. The event will also feature plenty of kid-friendly activities, including music by Mr. Dave Music, magic tricks by local magician Mary Macaroni, a mini class from Big City Readers, and an appearance by Julie Burt Nichols, a Chicago-based Twiniversity instructor who teaches parents about all things twin-related.

“We’ve already received a warm welcome from the neighborhood, and we’ve seen incredible response from families in Chicago proper as evidenced by our selling over 1,000 memberships during our pre-sale period,” said DeJong. “Here at Big Blue Swim School, we pride ourselves on providing families with a proprietary distance-based curriculum and trained, full-time child engagement specialists that will have a consistent schedule.”

Big Blue Swim School offers students and families state-of-the-art swimming facilities that include 90-degree, temperature-regulated swimming pools, carpeted floors throughout to help prevent falling and ample changing rooms and parking. Its 13-lane swimming pools and flexible class structure model give busy families plenty of scheduling options, and the child engagement specialists who teach the swimming classes closely monitor each student’s progress. The swim school takes students as young as six months.

Big Blue Swim School was founded in 2009 after DeJong missed qualifying for the U.S. Olympic team in 2004 and 2008 by four-tenths of a second to Olympian Michael Phelps. DeJong used this defeat as motivation to start the swim school franchise.

The brand has four other locations in Illinois, including Niles, Hoffman Estates, Wilmette and Buffalo Grove. The brand is also rapidly expanding and seeking franchisees, particularly in the states of Colorado, Florida, Washington, Massachusetts, Arizona and Texas.
