Lift Off: Pirtek Huntsville Brings Industrial Hose Service to Alabama

State’s first Pirtek location set to tap area’s vibrant economic growth

October 28, 2019 // Franchising.com // Huntsville, AL, USA - Huntsville, Ala., is a city long known for its association with U.S. space exploration, and the owner of Pirtek Huntsville is working to ensure the new franchise takes off.

Now open for business, Pirtek Huntsville is the first Pirtek location in Alabama and the 90th in the United States. The franchise launched under Pirtek USA’s Tier 2 program, a mobile-only option that enables business owners to start at a lower initial cost.

“Huntsville is in the midst of some major economic growth right now,” said David Burns, owner of the new Pirtek location and a sales veteran of 20 years. “Nobody else is providing mobile service like Pirtek does, so it’s a great opportunity for us.”

Pirtek specializes in hydraulic and industrial hose service from its locations throughout the country. Pirtek team members are available 24/7 to provide onsite repairs to hydraulic and industrial hoses, thanks to the company’s specially equipped Mobile Service Vehicles. Pirtek boasts more than 400 franchise locations in 23 countries around the world.

Burns, who has substantial experience in franchising, said he’s excited about operating a business-to-business franchise, and being able to do some of the hands-on work himself. “I’m looking forward to working with my hands and getting dirty,” he said. “We’re offering a great service here and the Pirtek training has just been outstanding.”

A Tier 2 franchisee can keep inventory in a storage facility or small warehouse while leasing two vehicles. After three years, a Tier 2 franchise is expected to advance to Tier 1, which includes a full Service & Supply Center staffed with six team members and at least two Mobile Service Vehicles.

Burns sees vast potential in Huntsville, where a new joint venture between Mazda and Toyota is set to bring a flurry of new economic activity to the area. Upcoming construction includes a number of ambitious projects, including a Facebook data center and a new FBI center at the Redstone Arsenal.

With a population of more than 180,000, Huntsville has the second-largest technology and research park in the nation. There are a number of high-tech and biotech businesses in the area.

In the 1960s, Huntsville received the nickname “Rocket City” when NASA built its Saturn V rockets for the Apollo program. Aerospace and defense still employ many thousands in the region.
