Survey Finds Americans are Clamoring for Socialization at Indoor Entertainment Venues

Axe Throwing Entertainment Concept Recently Took the Temperature of the Americans Willingness and Excitement to Return to Indoor Entertainment Venues

April 09, 2021 // Franchising.com // ST. PAUL, Minn. - On the cusp of widespread vaccinations, Americans are weighing in on their interest and comfort level of returning to indoor entertainment venues. FlannelJax’s, North America’s premier axe-throwing and lumberjack sports experience, recently commissioned a survey of more than 1,000 U.S. adults to better understand their view on returning to indoor entertainment venues.

Conducted mid-February, the survey results demonstrate significant demand for in-person celebrations and group activities. More than 84% of survey respondents indicated that they miss them. Similarly, 86% of respondents are looking forward to participating in large group social events after the pandemic.

“These results affirm that, as the pandemic is controlled, there will be an immense demand for entertainment experiences with friends, family and co-workers. Americans are excited and anxious to return to safely having fun at indoor venues like ours,” said Stephen Schober, President and CEO of FlannelJax’s. “As many Americans are looking forward to returning to indoor entertainment venues, we are excited for what the future holds after the pandemic for concepts like FlannelJax’s.”

The findings demonstrate that reuniting in social group settings with extended family and friends at indoor entertainment venues is a top priority once pandemic concerns ease. Nearly 65% of Americans noted that being unable to gather with friends and family at indoor entertainment venues is what they miss most about such closures.

Causing the thirst to return to indoor entertainment venues, the survey revealed nearly 60 percent of Americans currently feel unsafe attending indoor entertainment venues due to COVID-19. About a third of respondents feel “very unsafe” while a quarter noted “somewhat unsafe.”

These results are despite many entertainment venues, like FlannelJax’s, making guests’ well-being a top priority as they re-open across the country. FlannelJax’s, in particular, is successfully operating with capacity limits, social distancing and additional measures in place to protect customers. Plus, as municipality restrictions ease further, FlannelJax’s will continue to prioritize allaying its guests’ concerns with regional safety guidelines in place.

The survey segmented questions into friends and family socialization as well as work and corporate event gatherings. Results from both sets of questions were then analyzed through the lens of several demographics, with age being the most revealing. Generational differences were clear, especially relative to work and corporate gatherings:

  • The impact of working virtually on the quality of work produced:
    • More than 50% of 18 to 29-year-olds (younger Millennials and older Gen Zs) “agreed” that the challenges of maintaining relationships with coworkers and clients while working virtually have negatively impacted the quality of their work.
  • The impact of working virtually on communication and relationship-building with co-workers:
    • More than 50% of 30 to 44-year-olds have seen a reduction in engagement and quality of relationships with co-workers.
    • The largest group of survey respondents indicating a “major reduction” in engagement and quality of relationships with co-workers was the 60+ group (30%).

Despite their differences in terms of how they feel about their work quality and the current condition of their relationships, more than 60% of all respondents agreed that they are “looking forward to participating in team-building events and celebrations after the pandemic.” Entertainment venues, like FlannelJax’s, are posed to benefit from both the anticipated longer term wide-spread adoption of remote working and by the need many businesses are feeling to create and sustain employee engagement, by offering companies an outlet for team building and employee engagement.

Leaning into the strong sentiment to return to group events at indoor venues, FlannelJax’s offers guests an affordable yet premium “axe-perience.” It is an emerging brand in events for corporate and social outings. In what is a fragmented industry, FlannelJax’s is a premium experience in the category, consistent with what guests would expect from a fun, safe night out with friends or family. FlannelJax’s also excels in creating an effective team-building experience for corporate groups, networking events and even client appreciation activities. Enhancing the FlannelJax’s experience, groups can try their hand at unique lumberjack sports like Crosscut Sawing and Thump the Stump, a race to hammer nails into a stump using a hatchet.
