5 Dog-Friendly Destinations for Your Next Family Trip

Don’t leave your best buddy behind. The whole crew – including your canine kin – are welcome at Home2 Suites in these prime locations

May 20, 2021 // Franchising.com // Americas - It’s been a year of living in extremely close quarters with those we love - including our four-legged family members. Now, as summer adventures call, there’s no need to exclude our pets from fun-filled road trips.

With close to 500 pet-friendly locations across the country, Fido or Fifi, along with the rest of your family, are always welcome at Home2 Suites by Hilton.

In honor of National Pet Month, Hilton curated a list of top dog- and family-friendly destinations. So, pack up those water bowls and treats, and get ready for a tail-wagging good time.

  • Asheville, N.C.
Known as “Dog City, USA” for the dog-doting demeanor of many residents, Asheville has a dog welcome center, pet-friendly restaurants and numerous areas for outdoor adventures. The Biltmore estate’s grounds are great for walks, and the Blue Ridge Parkway has a plethora of hiking paths. Pets and their owners can stroll through downtown Asheville to take in the shops and galleries, then get a bite at a nearby eatery. Home2 Suites by Hilton Asheville Biltmore Village is conveniently located near Asheville attractions, as well as close to area dog parks.
  • Fort Collins, Colo.
The Tour de Corgi (an annual gathering of the short-statured breed), the yearly Fire Hydrant 5 pet expo and the wide array of reservoir area trails are just some of the exciting offerings here. History buffs can visit the statue and gravesite of the area’s famed Annie the Railroad Dog, known for greeting train passengers who arrived in Fort Collins in the 1940s, and eventually becoming a mascot for the city. Those who want to focus on present-day times can venture through the pet-welcoming downtown area. Home2 Suites by Hilton Fort Collins offers spacious accommodations and an ideal home base for all the excursions.
  • Long Island City, N.Y.
This Big Apple area is one of New York City’s most exciting neighborhoods. It has “doga” (yes, a combo of “dog” and “yoga”) for pups and people who want to Zen out, as well as nearby dog runs. For families and furry friends seeking even more action in the big city, sprawling Central Park is a pup’s paradise, with many nearby restaurants allowing dogs to dine al fresco with their human companions. Although Manhattan is filled with cool spots for Spot, it’s a pricy place to stay. That’s another reason why Long Island City, with its waterfront parks and sweeping views of the city skyline, is a good option. Home2 Suites by Hilton New York Long Island City/Manhattan View, NY is close to major subway lines and local dog parks.
  • Nashville, Tenn.
Music City is sure to strike a chord with the whole family. Centennial Dog Park and Riverfront Park Dog Park provide an opportunity to stretch two—or four-—legs. After the entire family enjoys one of the many guided tours of the city, head to the Honky Tonk Highway (aka Lower Broadway) to check out the shops, dessert spots and tourist attractions. While in Nashville, a must-see is BarkPark, a dog park/hip human hangout combo. BarkPark and other canine-centric activities are a short distance from Home2 Suites by Hilton Nashville Downtown Convention Center.
  • Austin, Texas
From outdoor dining at local restaurants to exploring area parks, there’s plenty to do with your pooch. Pups are even welcome on the grounds of the Texas State Capitol. The Barton Creek Spillway, known as both “Barking Springs” and “Barkin’ Springs,” is a hot spot for locals and their dogs, while Zilker Park is another popular pet playground. Home2 Suites by Hilton Austin North/Near the Domain, a well-situated home base, is just minutes away from the Domain, a large open-air mall and popular place to shop with your companions.

Before piling the whole family in the car and hitting the open road to one of these popular pet-friendly vacation destinations this summer, book your stay at Home2 Suites online. You won’t be ruffing it.

Terms and Conditions Apply. Hotels may require an additional pet fee and size limit. Pet fee and size limit vary by hotel and guests are encouraged to check their local property website for more information.
