Sailing for a Purpose - SailTime Alabama Base Sponsors Children’s Cup Regatta

SailTime Franchisee, Christopher Jones, Backing Fundraiser for Children’s of Alabama

May 06, 2022 // Franchising.com // FAIRHOPE, Ala. - More than three million children are hospitalized each year across the United States. The number of children taken to the emergency room per year is a staggering 25.5 million. On average, 47 children a day are diagnosed with cancer. To combat these alarming statistics, SailTime Alabama Base Owner Christopher Jones, is sponsoring the local Children’s Cup Regatta for the second consecutive year.

The annual fundraising event hosted at Fairhope Yacht Club aims to benefit pediatric patients treated at Children’s of Alabama in Birmingham. This medical center treats more than 90% of children in the state with cancers and blood disorders. Children’s of Alabama is also the only pediatric hospital in the state to provide heart, liver and kidney transplants, pediatric neurosurgery, pediatric seizure monitoring, pediatric plastic surgery, pediatric ECMO and the only facility in Alabama that offers a pediatric burn center.

When Jones opened SailTime Alabama in 2020, he immediately started exploring various opportunities to make an impact within his community. Jones is a member of the Fairhope Yacht Club and once he learned about the annual Children’s Cup Regatta, he realized he had to get involved.

“I knew in my heart this was a great opportunity to get behind and to support the children in our community,” said Jones. “Children’s of Alabama is vital for our state. The care they offer makes a difference in countless lives. Aside from sponsoring the event, our team will also provide rides to the patients and their families throughout the day. There is no better feeling than to see a child who has endured more than many of us ever will smile while sailing out to sea.”

Children’s of Alabama performs more than 26,000 surgeries a year, receives 73,000 emergency department visits and more than 960 patients from critical care transports each year. Providing lifesaving care and ongoing treatments for the ones we love most.

Jones is thrilled to be involved in the Children’s Cup Regatta for the second year and counting. He plans to introduce this event and garner support from the sailing enthusiasts he serves. He aims to bring awareness to this beneficial fundraiser and show those in the surrounding area what they can achieve if they all come together for a great cause. In doing so, Jones invites the local media to take their reporting skills out to sea and join him aboard a sailboat ahead of the event. He welcomes the coverage of this beneficial fundraiser and will provide interviews along with patients and their families from Children’s of Alabama the week leading up to the Children’s Cup Regatta.

“Join our local SailTime captains at sea and share this amazing story,” said Jones. “On the day of your choosing we will be ready to give you an inside look at what this event means to Children’s of Alabama and the patients they serve. We look forward to making a difference one family at a time.”

The Children’s Cup Regatta sets sail Saturday May 7th at the Fairhope Yacht Club located at 101 Volanta Avenue. The family-friendly event welcomes all to watch the races free-of-charge beginning at 12:30 p.m. Following the races there will be a silent auction, kids activity area, food, drinks, live music, and a plethora of other activities for all to enjoy.

“SailTime Group, the world’s leading fractional boat membership franchise, is more than just a business, it’s a community,” said Todd Hess, SailTime Group’s CEO. “We support giving back to those in need and the Children’s of Alabama hospital is the perfect occasion. We are proud of Christopher’s philanthropic efforts and encourage others to join us as we sail for a purpose on May 7th.”
