Cousins Subs® Make It Better Foundation Awards Community Grants To Five Local Nonprofits

Organizations Look to Address Vital Needs of Health & Wellness, Hunger and Youth Education

July 22, 2022 // Franchising.com // MILWAUKEE - Cousins Subs® announces five organizations as recipients of a combined $10,000 in grants through its Make It Better Foundation. Funding will help offset the cost of resources and programming that address the vital community needs of health and wellness, hunger and youth education.

“Cousins Subs views every day as an opportunity to make it better for those it serves,” said Justin McCoy, vice president of marketing at Cousins Subs. “By funding statewide nonprofit organizations that align with our Foundation’s three pillars - health & wellness, hunger and youth education - we’re able to focus on this mission and our 50-year tradition of giving back to our local communities.”

The five Make It Better Foundation grant recipients include:

  • Camp Hometown Heroes - A $2,500 grant will help fund the organization’s Peace Garden to provide campers a safe space to share their feelings within their support group. Camp Hometown Heroes is a free week-long overnight camp for children and siblings of fallen U.S. service members.
  • Lighthouse Youth Center - A $3,600 grant will help fund the organization’s summer program that provides free nutritious food for low income, inner-city Milwaukee youth. Lighthouse Youth Center provides a safe environment for youths to practice life skills, study, interact with strong role models and more.
  • Philippine Cultural & Civic Center Foundation - A $1,000 grant will help fund the 2nd Annual Back to School Free Backpack Day where backpacks full of school supplies are distributed to children and families in need of assistance. In addition to backpacks, the community event also offers clothing, dental supplies, book distribution and child ID kits.
  • Professional Firefighters of Wisconsin - A $2,500 grant will help fund the organization’s Summer Camp for Burn Injured Youth this August. A free, week-long overnight summer camp, the program invites kids ages 7-17 with life-changing burn injuries to grow their lifelong support system, continue to heal from the emotional trauma of their burns and just be a kid.
  • Riveredge Nature Center - A $400 grant will help support the organization’s Scientist in Residence program that works with schools to provide unique outdoor learning experiences and science education.

Since the inception of the Make It Better Foundation in 2013, Cousins Subs has supported its local communities through monetary donations to nonprofits, education scholarships and food aid.
