Garage Living Partners with DuVal Reynolds to Highlight the Versatility and Functionality of the Garage

October 10, 2022 // Franchising.com // When DuVal Reynolds, the Virginia-based interior designer, was selected to design the garage for Architectural Digest’s 2nd annual Iconic Home, his heart sank a little. Like many, DuVal thought of the garage solely in terms of storage. It wasn’t until he was paired with Garage Living, the premium garage transformation company in the US and Canada, that he saw the true design potential of the space.

The Iconic Home is a virtual showhouse designed by 12 designers and architects associated with the Black Interior Designers Network (BIDN). The virtual home features 12 rooms open for digital walkthroughs, allowing visitors to explore each space via this link.

While there is no doubt that DuVal has an eye for design, it was not always the career path he envisioned. Originally, he was a pre-med major, studying the sciences at Christopher Newport University in Virginia. He got his start in interior design after leaving school and moving to the DC Metro area.

What began as a reception job at California Closets led to a 12-year career, with DuVal becoming the Design & Sales Manager for the company. During this time, his love for design grew, and he eventually enrolled in a full-time night program at Westwood College, obtaining a bachelor’s degree in Interior Design.

Following this, he went out on his own in September 2017, and has since created DuVal Design, LLC, a team of five, based out of Fairfax City, Virginia. His undeniable talent has not gone unnoticed. He has been named "The One to Watch" by DC Modern Luxury Magazine, as well as "Hot Talent" by Home & Design Magazine.

DuVal’s impressive portfolio is what led to his participation in Architectural Digest’s Iconic Home. When designing the garage for this virtual house, he combined his clean, contemporary style and dramatic vision with Garage

The partnership between Garage Living and DuVal led to a sleek, functional design – something he prides himself in. “When I design a room, I have a justification for each aspect I incorporate,” says DuVal. “Garage Living’s vast product offering made it easy to design a space that not only had utility, but also became a true extension of the home.”

This was reflected in Garage Living’s exclusive cabinetry that DuVal featured in the garage. This design- based solution allows clients to store a range of items, from seasonal decor to sports equipment, keeping the space tidy year-round. In addition, he incorporated a built-in lounge area situated beside a wine cooler, highlighting Garage Living’s and his own knack for tailoring the space to the homeowner’s lifestyle.

“I wanted the space to be something people hadn’t seen before,” says DuVal. “The garage is often over- looked, but for many, it is the first room you walk into or the last room you walk out of when leaving your home. Why wouldn’t you want it to be inviting and inspiring?”
