Sport Clips Haircuts’ Professional Stylists Tackle Fades in "The Look" Creative Competition

Takisha Smoot is the winner among the franchise's 13,000+ stylists

May 12, 2023 // Franchising.com // GEORGETOWN, Texas - “The Look” competition invites Sport Clips Haircuts professional stylists to vie for a coveted Top Six finalists’ spot to unleash their creativity on stage before the thousands gathered for the franchise's annual Huddle. This year’s theme “Bald to the Wahl®” threw down the challenge to create those clean fades popular with so many Sport Clips clients using clippers. As the nation's leading haircare franchise dedicated to men and boys, The Look drew entries from stylists who are “the pros in men’s hair” from all parts of the U.S. and Canada.

The six finalists included this year's The Look winner Takisha Smoot, from Sport Clips Haircuts of Jonesboro in Arkansas, along with:

  • Shaylyn Seguin – Second Place
  • Stephen Jones – Third Place
  • Corey Hicks – Honorable Mention
  • Mia Maddox – Honorable Mention
  • Alex Dealy – Honorable Mention

Takisha Smoot – Jonesboro, AR. After losing everything in a house fire when living in Missouri, she took a gamble and moved to Las Vegas where she attended and graduated from cosmetology school. She decided to move closer to home with her two sons and landed in Jonesboro, Arkansas where she is the manager Sport Clips Haircuts of Jonesboro. To complete her winning “Look,” Takisha used Gibs™ Hitman Texturizing Spray, Gibs Tea Tree™ Pomade Plus, and American Crew® Fiber™ Cream.

Shaylyn Seguin – Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. She has been a part of the Sport Clips family for five years. Shaylyn started at her store while she was still in school, following her mom into the profession, and was quickly hired full-time. She is now the assistant manager of Sport Clips Tenth Line Ottawa, Ontario. Shaylyn used American Crew® Matte Clay Spray and Gibs™ Outlaw to create her “Look.”

Stephen Jones – Gainesville, FL. Stephen Jones a.k.a. "Jones" is from Sport Clips Haircuts of Butler North in Florida. He’s been cutting the hair of friends and family since he was 13. After some personal obstacles, he received both his barber and cosmetology licenses. He’s been with Sport Clips for a year now. Gibs™ Brawler and Outlaw Hair Spackle were the finished products for his model’s look.

Corey Hicks – Canfield, OH. Finalist from Sport Clips Haircuts of Canfield Corey Hicks has been with the team for eight years. He’s involved in numerous philanthropic activities and took a little time off from being a professional stylist to work for Disney. Corey used Gibs™ El Rey and Con Man for the style he created.

Mia Maddox – Lufkin, TX. Mia is a barber school graduate who started with Sport Clips in 2020. She became the manager of Sport Clips Haircuts of Lufkin a little over a year after joining the brand. JPMS Hair & Body Moisturizer® finished Mia’s model’s style.

Alex Dealy – Albuquerque, NM. Even after planning to go to law school, it was her passion for hair that led her to cosmetology school. Now a mother of two, she is manager of Sport Clips Haircuts of Shops at Paseo Crossing. Alex used American Crew® Matte Clay, Gibs™ Brawler, Bionik, and Sexy Hair Big Powder Play™ Lite to complete the look she styled.

"Sport Clips stylists have the training and creative skills to give clients that feeling of confidence a good haircut and great look can inspire," says Stacia Kelley, Sport Clips Haircuts artistic director. "Fades are highly technical, and we provide extensive training in how to get them just right. So this competition opened the doors for these finalists to take their talent and training and put it to the test on stage to get that perfect ‘bald’ fade look with Wahl clippers."
