With ten years of franchising under its belt, Phenix Salon Suites, the nation’s leading salon suite franchise turned international trailblazer, continues to stimulate impressive growth alongside its largest franchise operator, Kevin Davis.

Davis, a longtime Phenix franchisee, first joined the brand in 2012 as its second operator. Over the last 10 years, he grew his portfolio to 51 open locations across key growth markets like New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, Washington D.C. and California, with even more in the pipeline. After opening eight locations so far through the end of Q3 of 2022, Davis is on track to open five more before year-end.

Before settling on salon suites, Davis started his career in the restaurant franchising industry, and transitioned to salon suites due to burn out from the strenuous day-to-day operations of restaurant ownership and in search of a semi-absentee model. Following an insightful conversation with Jason Rivera, the then CEO of Phenix Salon Suites, Davis signed his first franchisee agreement with the brand to open a location in Catonsville, Maryland, and quickly added to his portfolio with additional locations along the East Coast. In addition to owning and operating his own locations, Kevin has been instrumental in building the Phenix brand and helped spearhead the development of 11 locations that are now owned by other franchisees.

“After first investing in Phenix in 2012, it immediately became evident that this model was strong,” said Davis. “There was a clear interest from lifestyle professionals looking to rent the independent suites, as well as from customers who were in need of their services, and as an investor, the profits were there almost instantly. The real selling point of the Phenix model is its scalability—I have 51 locations open across the country and the day-to-day work for me is minimal, which is why I’ve been able to continuously grow in multiple states. After years of franchise ownership with restaurants, there is no question that Phenix is the winning investment. Phenix Salon Suites was one of the first salon suite concepts to offer luxurious, spacious suites for independent salon and lifestyle professionals to rent on a month-to-month basis and become their own boss. Built by salon expert Gina Rivera, a hairstylist for more than 25 years, she sought to create a model that provided salon professionals with the opportunity to be their own boss at a fraction of the price of opening a full-scale salon.

While no salon experience is necessary, the most successful franchisees are well-capitalized with a working knowledge of commercial real estate and general business experience.
