Starwood Hotels & Resorts Holds First-Ever North America Food and Beverage Leadership Conference

“Recipe to Win” at Sheraton Denver Downtown Hotel Featuring Celebrity Restaurateurs and Chefs Including Sean Diddy Combs

DENVER--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 14-16, Starwood Hotel & Resorts hosts Recipe to Win, a first-ever food & beverage leadership conference at the Sheraton Denver Downtown Hotel for over 500 F&B Leaders from all over North America representing over 150 full-service, luxury and upscale Starwood brand hotels, over 100 Starwood franchise properties and over 100 vendors. The focus of the conference is to provide attendees with the key F&B tools, concepts and programs that will allow each F&B leader to create their own “recipe to win” of food and beverage for their hotel. Entertainer Sean Diddy Combs welcomed conference attendees at the opening session and thanked the group for support of his CIROC vodka.

“The staff at the Sheraton is accustomed to accommodating high-profile events.”

Celebrities invited to participate in the conference and on a special food & beverage panel include Todd English of PBS and Olives fame; Danny Meyer, Union Square Hospitality Group; Scott Gerber, Gerber Group; Dave Shula, Shula’s Steak House; Bob Spviak, Grill Concepts and James Gersten, Culinary Concepts Hospitality Group. The panel will explore developing and maintaining relationships between hotels and third party restaurants. The Sheraton’s relationship with the Yard House and Katie Mullen’s Irish Restaurant & Pub is a good example of those mutually beneficial partnerships.

A Sheraton brand hotel was needed for this conference, as Sheraton recently underwent a global $6B revitalization and Sheraton brand represents 50% of Starwood over 1,000 hotels. The Sheraton Denver Downtown Hotel, chosen as the host hotel, has enough guestrooms to house all the attendees, has abundant flexible meeting space and a ballroom large enough for the attendees. In addition, the hotel’s commitment to sustainability and commitment to purchasing locally produced goods was a consideration for the meeting planner.

“This is an ‘over-the-top’ conference and expectations are high,” states Brian Abel, Vice President of Food & Beverage for Starwood Hotels & Resorts. “The staff at the Sheraton is accustomed to accommodating high-profile events.” He continued that the conference needed a hotel that had the flexibility to showcase unique F&B events and concepts that Starwood is planning to roll out across the division. Such events include a wine & cheese bar in a walk-in cooler and a seafood buffet in the dish room. This is certainly unusual, but business-as-usual for Executive Chef Scott Skomal and his culinary team.
