Hilton Worldwide To Open First Hotel In Latvia
Plans Unveiled to Bring Hilton Garden Inn to Riga as City Becomes European Capital of Culture
May 16, 2014 // Franchising.com // MCLEAN, Va. and RIGA, Latvia - Travellers to Latvia will soon be able to experience award winning Hilton Garden Inn hospitality as Hilton Worldwide announced its intention to launch the mid-market brand in the country's capital city of Riga.
Expected to be completed in early 2016, the 139 guestroom Hilton Garden Inn Riga Valdemara will be operated by SIA D.N.H. The hotel will offer picturesque views of Riga's Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, which this year celebrates European Capital of Culture status together with Umea, Sweden.
Adrian Kurre, global head, Hilton Garden Inn said "We're delighted to be adding Latvia to our rapidly increasing portfolio of European destinations. Riga has really been put on the map globally having earned the title of European Capital of Culture this year so this news could not have come at a better time. We look forward to offering travellers to this burgeoning destination a new standard in mid-market accommodation."
With its striking design concept in the shape of a nine story tower, the newly built hotel will form a eye catching landmark for visitors entering Riga via the Krisjana Valdemara Iela main road which connects the city with Riga International Airport. Its location will offer optimum accessibility combined access to the historic Old Town, which lies a short distance away across the Daugava river. The city is renowned for its diverse architecture from medieval cathedrals to the widespread Art Nouveau style adopted at the turn of the century.
The hotel will also benefit from its close proximity to the Kipsala International Exhibition Centre, the largest of its kind in the Baltic region. The complex boasts over 10,000 sqm of meeting space and is a regular venue for regional trade fairs and conferences whilst also acting as an entertainment venue which has played host to the likes of Les Miserables and Def Leppard. Guests at Hilton Garden Inn Riga Valdemara will be within 750m of the facility and directly opposite the headquarters of Latvia's National Bank.
Patrick Fitzgibbon, senior vice president, development, Hilton Worldwide, said: "Riga is a city that has been growing in stature as both a business and leisure destination for some time now. It is ideally positioned to attract visitors from neighbouring countries and beyond. A concerted effort by the Latvian tourist authorities to market Riga as a meetings and events venue through the MEET: Riga campaign is also bearing fruit, attracting the ideal mix of visitors for Hilton Garden Inn."
Amongst the facilities guests will be able to expect at Hilton Garden Inn Riga Valdemara include an all-day restaurant and bar as well as up to 140sqm available as meeting space. The brand's full range of standard features, such as free Wi-Fi and 24hr access to the gym, business centre and Pavilion pantry snack bar will all be provided. Its service culture tailored towards the convenience of the busy modern traveller saw Hilton Garden Inn achieved first place in the most recent JD Power & Associates' European Hotel Guest Satisfaction Index Study (2011).
Rodney Sanders, project manager on the new hotel said, "The hotel is designed for the smart business traveller and tourist alike combining innovative technology with contemporary design and comfort. We are looking forward to introducing Hilton Garden Inn to Riga."
