Pyjama Day Raises Money For Franchise Theatre School Charity

October 05, 2022 // Franchising.com // What could be more fun than wearing your pyjamas for the day? Wearing your PJ’s and onesie at your favourite theatre school with all your friends, that’s what.

Children that attend Razzamataz Theatre Schools donned their favourite pyjamas to show support for the theatre school’s very own charity called Future Fund, which offers financial support to students going on to study at performing arts college or university. Razzamataz is a national network of theatre schools that was established in 2000 and won the backing of Duncan Bannatyne during an iconic episode of BBC’s Dragons’ Den.

When Founder Denise entered the Den, she brought with her a couple of students to show just what Razzamataz is all about. One of those children, Danielle Fiamanya has hugely benefitted from all the scholarships that the school provides. Danielle has appeared in West End hit &Juliet and she is currently a cast member of Frozen, understudying the lead role of Elsa. “Razzamataz was the first theatre school I stepped in to and I just wouldn’t be here without you and my scholarships at the school,” she says.

The students at Razzamataz had a wonderful time participating in their dance, drama and singing lessons in their PJs, together with all their teachers and staff. Everyone got involved and parents and families showed their support with a small voluntary donation.

“The whole school network and our supportive families are behind this charity because we know that it’s a huge advantage to receiving the scholarship, that gets judged by a panel of industry experts,” says Denise Gosney, MD and Founder of Razzamataz. “It is very expensive to study and takes such a huge amount of dedication, commitment and talent to get accepted into performing arts college so anything that we can give that helps towards tuition, travel costs or equipment is always so gratefully received.”

The annual PJ Day is always a highlight in the calendar for students and staff who often go that extra mile with dressing up and additional activities to add to the overall fun. “It’s just such a lovely day and knowing that we are having fun to help one of our students achieve their dreams and ambitions is so satisfying,” adds Denise. “It also gives our staff the opportunity to chat to all the students about their own career aspirations and reminds them the importance of working as a team and never giving up.”

Since the Future Fund charity was launched, Razzamataz has been able to award approximately £40,000 in grants to support young people to follow their dream in the arts. This includes former student Robson Broad who used the Future Fund grant to help finance his way through college. On graduation, Robson successfully auditioned to become a cast member in hit West End show Hamilton and is now currently performing in Moulin Rouge in the Piccadilly Theatre, London.

“Performing has been a dream of mine for so long and I’m grateful to all the people who have helped me get here,” says Robson. “It’s a tough industry but during my time at Razzamataz, I got to meet lots of performers through the special guest workshops and now it is incredible that I’m in that privileged position myself.”

Whether children go on to work professionally in the industry or not, being part of the theatre school gives them a unique chance to build their confidence and develop life skills, vital attributes for young people today.

Razzamataz offers a wide range of performing arts styles including current trends that are accessible to children and teenagers. Razzamataz classes consist of dance, drama and singing and the curriculum covers the whole of the performing arts, from classic West End musical theatre to street dance, pop singing and acting for camera.
