Randy Johansen Assumes New Role at American Family Care

Nation’s Largest Urgent Care Provider Promotes From Within During Time of Transition and Growth

August 08, 2023 // Franchising.com // BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - American Family Care (AFC), the nation’s leading provider of urgent care, primary care, and occupational medicine services, announces the appointment of Randy Johansen as the new Chief Executive Officer. Johansen, who previously served as AFC’s President, now takes on the new role, to guide the organization into its next chapter. This transition follows the unfortunate passing of AFC's founder and CEO, D. Bruce Irwin, MD, who will be remembered for his significant contributions to the field of healthcare.

"It is with mixed emotions that I assume this new role. While I feel profound sadness for the circumstances that led to this transition following the passing of Dr. Irwin, I am deeply honored to step into the position," says Johansen. "We are blessed with an exceptional team, and together, we are committed to propelling AFC to new heights while upholding Dr. Irwin's enduring legacy of delivering accessible and affordable quality medical care to our patients."

Johansen joined American Family Care in June 1992 as the Chief Operating Officer and later assumed the position of president in 2005. With more than 40 years of experience in the healthcare field, primarily in finance, business administration, and operations, Johansen has played a pivotal role in the growth and success of AFC throughout his tenure.

As president and CEO, Johansen will continue to lead AFC's growth and expansion efforts across the nation. Under his guidance, AFC has experienced substantial progress, currently operating in 28 states with more than 300 locations. The organization is poised for further growth, with more than 100 clinics in the pipeline to open in the near future, extending AFC’s reach and serving more communities.

"I am thrilled and optimistic about AFC's future. Our momentum continues to surge as we consistently achieve growth and expansion," adds Johansen. "With so many additional locations already in the pipeline for next year, including our expansion into three new states, we are solidifying our position as the nation's premier urgent care system. This remarkable growth reaffirms our commitment to providing unparalleled healthcare services to communities across the country."
