Synergy HomeCare of Peoria Celebrates One Year of New Ownership

August 09, 2023 // // Tempe, Ariz. - SYNERGY HomeCare is proud to celebrate the one-year anniversary of new ownership for their Peoria-based franchise, SYNERGY HomeCare of Peoria.

For the past five years, the company has been a trusted provider of local in-home care for residents of Peoria, Tazewell, Woodford, and Stark counties in Illinois. As of last July, the company has done so under the new management of husband and wife duo, Shad and Melissa Sleeth.

Shad formerly owned and operated a staffing company in Denver for over a decade. The COVID-19 pandemic allowed him to redirect his focus toward home care, an industry that provided him with a greater sense of self-fulfillment. Similarly, Melissa sought to build upon her extensive career in real estate and recruiting after learning about a SYNERGY HomeCare franchise that had become available in Shad’s hometown.

Headquartered at 7324 N. University St., in Peoria, IL, the business is only a short drive from where Shad grew up. SYNERGY HomeCare of Peoria provides a wide range of non-medical care options for people of all ages and abilities, from companion care and personal assistance, to specialized care for people with chronic health conditions or recovering from illness or surgery.

Prior to becoming home care agency owners, both Shad and Melissa already had some personal experience with the industry. Growing up, Melissa’s mother was a professional caregiver, which had ingrained the value of selfless service into her children. Eventually, Melissa’s father developed Alzheimer’s, which further taught Melissa about the complexities of providing care to a loved one living with dementia.

Shad had come into contact with caregiving services following his father’s diagnosis of ALS. In order to assist his mother in her caregiving duties, the family brought in caregiver support to alleviate the stress. Shad and his mother quickly realized that the caregivers were not trained nor properly equipped to handle their needs. These services ended up taking an even greater toll on Shad’s mother’s health, and similar to Melissa’s experience, this taught him the critical importance of finding and providing exceptional home care.

“We didn’t just want to open a home care business, we wanted to open a home care business that would push the envelope and truly change lives for the better,” says Shad. “SYNERGY HomeCare was completely aligned with our goal to do so. Their mantra of ‘care that moves you’ truly resonates with our mission to build a company that betters everyone involved. Even for our caregivers, we want them to know they’re part of a family business that’s truly invested in the improvement of their lives.”

“We personally invest ourselves in learning every individual need of each client and caregiver, and then we provide our team with the tools to improve people’s lives every day. Where others may say no or get overwhelmed, we strive to always say ‘yes’ and handle any concerns with the most immediate timeline possible,” adds Melissa.

The Sleeths also expertly address one of the biggest challenges of the homecare industry – staffing. Both Shad and Melissa are adept in recruitment and training which has paid dividends in their ability to always have professionally-trained caregivers on call. Families’ needs are often immediate, and the Sleeths are able to staff clients in as little as 24 hours to ensure no need goes unmet.

Shad, Melissa, and their entire team go above and beyond in creating safe environments for their clients to help them avoid injury and sickness, and to assist the vast local population that is currently “aging in place. The Sleeths also take great pride in their commitment to providing local veterans and their families with the highest quality in-home care. SYNERGY HomeCare of Peoria is contracted with the VA, and they make it easy for vets to use their VA benefits to get the professional in-home support they deserve.
